Font driver

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Pierre and Damien of Plmd and Stef Van Campenhoudt (who drives a bit like Kirsty) have collaborated to cut a spanking new font, with a car. Basically the cars movements have been tracked using some clever software by interactive guru Zachary Lieberman and the results are gorgeous.

I’m seeing a pattern

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Kirsty bought me Geometric, for being good last week. It’s gorgeous and I keep sniffing the fresh print and smiling. Printed on heavy matte stock, it features an embossed cover that’s wrapped in an American-style poster and bound with a distinctive rhythm technique. The colourful and monochrome patterns are enough to get any designer dribbling …

F*ck the rain

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Spotted on Shirtluv.com, the Fuck The Rain umbrella is a thing of genius. It’s simple fun and more importantly it made us laugh on a crappy Monday morning. The Designers are Artemy Lebedev, Anton Schnaider and the umbrella features a cool carabiner handle so that you can clip it to things like your backpack or …

Lamp posts are cool

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Those tip top Landscape architects Anouk Vogel and cooler than polar bears architect Johan Selbing have just won a high profile competition to design the new lighting and furniture for the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. Their jaw dropping winning entry, called Vondel Verses, includes fabulous kiosks, funky park benches and some nice lamp posts. Each object …

And hell might freeze over

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

There are so many traditional advertising agencies out there in trouble and they’re all blaming the recession. However, yes times are difficult but this is a lame duck excuse. These mainly ‘traditional’ agencies totally missed the online video trend and social media  is still frightening them. They keep banging on about the fragmented media landscape, …

Poster Boy

Friday, February 13th, 2009

New York has a history of reactive ‘ad-jacking’, from the legendry Ron English to the likes of Violator of the Regime. However there is a new kid on the block, simply calling himself as ‘Poster Boy’. His on the spot improvised mash-ups reminds me of the cut-and-paste aesthetic of the 70’s punk era.
Of course, defacing …

Get stuffed in Brighton

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Don’t let the unpredictable nature of the weather (a mixture of grey skies, rain, rain and grey skies) get you down in the dumps. Brighton has plenty of fun, quirky, interesting and importantly, at this time of year, ‘indoor’ things to do. The wonderfully unique Booth Museum of Natural History Museum is a real gem.

British stamp duty

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Looks like the Royal Mail has done something right, instead of just loosing our mail all the time. Those clever Royal Mail types have come up with the British Design Classics series - 10 tiptop stamps, commemorating some classic British designs. So now the Royal Mail will look cool, as they loose the parcel.
The design …

I put together

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

My favourite toy has been around in one shape or form for over 70 years. Its first incarnation was in 1932 created by Ole Kirk Christiansen, master carpenter and joiner in Denmark. By 1934 his company and products were named using the Dutch worlds for ‘play well’… OK I’ll give you another clue, by chance …
